Welcome to our October edition, and welcome spring and daylight savings. Nice to finally have some warm(ish) weather and with it a chance to commence summer earthworks and other operations in sensitive areas.
I have to admit I have struggled to write this report as am feeling uneasy with many in our processing industry struggling and forest owners also doing it tough. So, it’s great to hear of the young people coming through the recent Tokoroa intake of the Generation Program, the progress of our scholarship recipients and recently interviewing some fantastic students and graduates for roles here at Timberlands. Our industry’s future is in good hands.
Sadly though, I hear Toi Ohomai struggling to attract students and funding. This institution has educated some of the powerhouses in our industry and it would be a disaster to lose it. We need to act and soon. Can we count on our members to get behind our (and others) work and together for a solution? I hope so, so please contact Damita with your thoughts, ideas, cunning plans and a pledge of support.
